Firsts and Lasts Are

Signs of a Life Well Lived

February 12, 2019

I once watched a video showing many "lasts" between parents and children. The last time you read a bedtime story. The last time they climb into bed with you. The last diaper change. The last time you put them on the bus. It made me smile and got me to thinking.

Life is about as many firsts as it is lasts. Both can be scary. Both can be intimidating. Both can be sad. But, most importantly, both can be full of energy and life. We can choose to view the "last time" as a loss of some kind. OR we can choose to view it as the transition to our next next. It's OK to grieve over a last time, but don't dwell in the grief. If whatever we experience for the last time wasn't happening, we'd be dead. We'd be standing still. We'd be stagnant. We'd be missing out on life.

The secret to a good life filled with meaningful firsts and lasts is to never stop . . .

The greatest story we'll ever know is our own. It's full of many firsts and lasts and all are signs of a life well lived.
